Abstract

As heart disease rates continue to rise in society, it is essential to prepare for awareness and prevention to avoid more severe conditions and even death. The lack of public knowledge about heart disease and its treatment needs to be improved to prepare for unexpected cases. This community service aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of health cadres in performing basic life support (BLS) for the general public, ensuring that citizens are ready for emergency situations. Education is provided through lectures, while BLS training is conducted through live demonstrations on mannequins by facilitators from students. To evaluate the success of the community service activity, a Q&A session is held at the end, followed by participants practicing BLS on mannequins based on the material given. BLS education and training play a crucial role in improving community preparedness for medical emergencies. This training equips individuals with essential first aid skills for victims of cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. The program also helps the community respond more quickly to accidents or heart attacks, reducing mortality from urgent medical conditions. BLS training boosts participants' confidence in handling emergencies, which is often hindered by fear or uncertainty. Rapid response time is critical, as initiating resuscitation promptly can reduce brain damage and increase the chances of patient recovery. The community service carried out by IKI lecturers has proven to improve the knowledge and skills of health cadres in providing BLS for the general public, making communities more prepared for emergency situations.
