PERAN LITERASI DALAM MENINGKATKAN SELF-EFIKASI ORANG TUA YANG MEMILIKI ANAK THALASSEMIA MAYOR DI RSUD AL-IHSAN PROVINSI JAWA BARAT

Abstract

Background: Thalassemia major is a genetic disease in which haemoglobin formation fails, causing anaemia that requires long-term care and special attention from parents, so parents' self-efficacy in managing their child's care is very important. The role of parental literacy affects self-efficacy so that parents are able to make the right decisions in providing optimal care. Objective: This study aims to determine the role of literacy in improving the self-efficacy of parents who have children with thalassemia major. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical survey method, a sample of 32 parents with purposive sampling technique, data collected with a 21-question questionnaire for literacy and GSES questionnaire for efficacy, the analysis used Pearson correlation test. Results: obtained a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), which indicates a significant relationship between the level of literacy of parents and the level of self-efficacy in parents who have children with thalassemia major. Conclusion: the higher the literacy level of parents, the higher the level of self-efficacy they feel in dealing with the care of children with thalassemia major. These results indicate that improving literacy can play an important role in increasing parents' confidence in managing child care. Through this study, the researcher provides recommendations for educational programmes that can support parents in improving their health literacy, so as to increase confidence and effectiveness in caring for children with thalassemia major.
