Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, many adolescent girls still lack adequate knowledge and attitudes about menstrual hygiene. Insufficient knowledge and attitudes towards menarche preparation and menstrual hygiene can increase the risk of leukorrhea, cervical cancer, and reproductive tract infections. A preventive measure to improve adolescent girls' knowledge and attitudes about menstrual hygiene is to provide health education, including the use of audiovisual media. Objective: To determine the effect of audiovisual media-based education on menstrual hygiene on the knowledge and attitudes of grade 4, 5, and 6 female students in preparation for menarche at SDN Baros Mandiri 6 Cimahi. Methods: This quantitative research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling, with a sample of 27 female students. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Univariate analysis used mean and standard deviation, and bivariate analysis used the Paired Samples T-Test with α <0.05. Results: The average knowledge score before education was 64.4 and after education was 87.3. The average attitude score before education was 68.0 and after education was 79.5. The results of the Paired Samples T-Test (T-Dependent) showed a p-value for knowledge and attitude of 0.0001 (<α = 0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of audiovisual media-based education on menstrual hygiene on the knowledge and attitudes of grade 4, 5, and 6 female students in preparation for menarche at SDN Baros Mandiri 6 Cimahi.: It is important to provide regular and comprehensive education on menstrual hygiene. In addition, adolescent girls should have easy and safe access to accurate information about menstruation. Support from parents, teachers, and peers is crucial in addressing stigma and embarrassment related to menarche preparation.
