Abstract

Background: Prenatal yoga is a type of exercise that has proven to improve relaxation during pregnancy. Prenatal yoga practices are becoming more popular among pregnant women with hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of prenatal yoga on decreasing blood pressure in pregnant women with hypertension. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design. The study sample included of 30 people: 15 in the control group and 15 in the intervention. The study included pregnant women in their third trimester with hypertension (blood pressure ≥ 140/90 mmHg), urinary protein (-), and no other pregnancy risk factors such as gemelli, cardiovascular illness, or placental abnormalities. Non-equivalent control groups were used to collect data before and after the test. The Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the data. Result The research results were significant (P val 0.001 < 0.005). It indicates that there is a difference in average blood pressure before and after the intervention. Conclusion: Regular prenatal yoga exercise can impact the decrease of blood pressure in pregnancies with hypertension.
