Abstract

Picky eater is the behavior of someone who chooses food. The prevalence rate in several countries is quite high, in Singapore at 29.9%, in Indonesia there is no specific data available regarding picky eaters. Parental parenting styles play a role in children's habits, including eating patterns. Parental parenting patterns are one of the factors that influence picky eaters. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and picky eaters in preschool children. The research method used is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The total sample was 69 people using simple random sampling techniques. Data collection uses a questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out, namely univariate (Frequency Distribution) and bivariate (Chi Square). Based on the results of the analysis using the Chi Square test showed that of the 69 respondents, 58% of the parents had poor parenting styles and 40,6% of the children were moderate picky eaters, while the bivariate results obtained a p value = 0.001 <0.05. There is a relationship between parenting styles and picky eaters in preschool children. It is hoped that parents need to implement good eating patterns by introducing various types of food from an early age, increasing food variety, to increase children's interest in new foods so that children are not picky eaters.
