Abstract

Hepatitis B is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). HBV can be transmitted horizontally between adults and vertically from mother to child. Vertical transmission can be prevented by early detection or screening of HBV surface antigen called HBsAg in pregnant women. HBsAg examination in pregnant women can be done at Puskesmas, one of which is Puskesmas Pakutandang. Based on the information from the Puskesmas, there are 1,309 pregnant women who are at risk of hepatitis B disease. Therefore, this community service activity aims to provide free HBsAg examinations to pregnant women who visit Puskesmas Pakutandang. This community service activity was attended by 30 participants. The activity is divided into four stages, that are the preparation stage, taking blood specimens for pregnant women carried out by Medical Laboratory Experts, HBsAg examination using the rapid test method using immunochromatography, and delivery of examination results by the Puskesmas. Based on the results of laboratory tests, it was found that there were 4 pregnant women infected with Hepatitis B. The four people admitted that they had never been vaccinated and did not know how HBV was transmitted. One of them claimed to have had multiple partners and another person had received a blood transfusion. Through this activity, pregnant women who check their pregnancy at Puskesmas Pakutandang know their Hepatitis B infection status. The four infected people were referred to specialists in order to get the right treatment and prevent the transmission of HBV to their children.
